DVD WORTH RENTING

Recently i rented this DVD "INVICTUS". It is defintely a show which i recommend all of you to watch. Its a story on Nelson Mandela after his appointment as the President of South Africa.
How he unite the country together between the blacks and the whites.
I learnt alot from how he handled situations and was always talking in a polite and friendly manner to the people surrounding him. A great man and leader who was very forgiving.
I highly recommend all to go rent this DVD. Will not be a waste of your time.
INVICTUS is actually a poem and it means "unconquerable" in latin.

PORCUPINE

Hi all,

I have decided to "revive" this blog. I will post some of my views on certain values which i think will benefit all of you aspiring sports men and women.

Firstly, have any of you regardless if you are from the football, basketball or girls club ever wonder why is our mascot a PORCUPINE? Let me explain to you now...

The porcupine is a tiny animal. Much like a skunk or a smaller version of a fox. It is not considered a big or prominent animal. However, when the porcupine's life is in danger of being harmed by the bigger animals, lions, tigers etc.. The porcupine is able to "spike out" and makes itself be a dangerous animal to go near.
With it's spikes, the porcupine protects itself from dangers and survives in the wild.

Its the same attitude and character we want to see from our players. All of our players are not "fantastic" players. Not extremely talented, might not even be from great schools or in the good streams. BUT, with self belief, we are able to protect ourselves. Able to withstand the dangers of the living in this "urban jungle".

We want all of you to enjoy your youth years, enjoy the friendship in the Sports club and with
the advice and guidance from the coaches, can learn to "spike out" in your respective lives.
So, every time u put on the jersey, remember the spirit of the porcupine. Fight for yourself and the team.

FOOTBALL TEAM 2010

Hi guys,

The new Cross Road Football League is under way. Having played all our group games, Promisedland managed to get 7 points after 4 games. Enough to ensure us of a semi-final spot. From now till August is the time for the boys to prepare for the semi fight.

Below are the details of the players.

CAPTAIN

Alif
16 years old
MC
Hillgrove Sec School
Liverpool has Steven Gerrad, Arsenal has Fabregas. Promisedland has our own key man in Alif. Here for 3 seasons and has always been providing the goals and inspiration to the team. Top scorer for last season and in contention for this year's award too. Already scored 4 goals in the group stages. 2 free kicks and 1 direct from corner kick. Always providing the killer passes and long range shots. Captain Fantastic.

SPECIAL PLAYER

Shawn
15 years old
??
Fuhua Sec School
Mr Promisedland. The most faithful and committed player. Never misses and training sessions or matches. Limited playing time but still eagerly awaits his chance. The player that is well loved by every teammate, coach and fans. Even though nobody knows what is his real position

FORWARDS

Jordan
15 years old
FW
Fuhua Sec School
Another one that raised through the ranks in Promisedland. Came of the bench and scored twice already. Gradually finding his confidence in playing. Developing his shooting abilities. Will only improve by playing around the more experienced players in the team.

Fandi
16 years old
FW
Hillgrove Sec School
The "Heskey" of the team. Big, strong and powerful. Still trying his best to score his first competitive goal for the team. With his big frame, speed is definitely not his strong point. Good for holding off the defenders.

MIDFIELDERS

Fredrick
15years old
MR
Hillgrove Sec School
One of the fastest player in the team. Has joined Promisedland since Pri 4. Speed is his biggest assest in the game. Gradually understanding the game more. Learning to keep his temper in check.

Aliff
14 years old
MR/ FW
Hillgrove Sec School
Another young potential for the team. The cheekiest player who is also the baby of the team. Connects well with everybody. Has a cheerful attitude which rubs on his teammates. Good touches and courageous whenever he enters the game. Will form the core of the team in the next 2 years.

Fairouz
14 years old
DM
Greenridge Sec School
Another new addition to the team. Shows great maturity for his young age. Puts in presence in the midfield and launches attacks from the centre of the field. Another free kick specialist. Plays with alot of fire and guts. A great motivator on and off the pitch.

Nickson
16 years old
MC/R/L FW
Fuhua Sec School
Joined the team weeks before the season started. Scored in his debut in a friendly. Possess a sweet left foot. Showed his versatility by playing in a left back position in one of the games. Has already 2 goals after the group stages.
Will only get better.

Darryl
16 years old
MC/R/L FW
Fuhua Sec School
3rd year in the team. With his good control and technique, it is no wonder he is wearing the number 10 jersey. Fantastic dribbling which opens up defence and an unselfish player who likes to lay off for his teammates. A natural talent and a good assest to the team.

Timothy
16 years old
MC/R/L
Fuhua Sec School
One of the "pretty boys" of the team. A player who plays like his attitude. Quiet but with flair. Good vision and reading of the game. Able to put some crosses in for the forwards. With more self belief, will develop into a good player.

DEFENDERS

Faizuli
16 years old
Def C/L
Hillgrove Sec School
In only his 1st season with Promisedland, Fai has established himself as one of the key man in the team. His defensive partnership with Asraf managed to keep the defence in check. His aerial ability and clearances kept out many attacks. Formed the other half of the twin towers.
Has also a swet left foot that is good for longe range missiles towards the opponent's goal.

Asraf
16 years old
Def C
Hillgrove Sec School
2nd year playing in the heart of defence for Promisedland. Has improved in defensive position and maturity. Stopped putting in reckless challenges and is gradually timing his tackles to perfection. Is one half of Promisedland's defensive towers. A key man in the team.

Firdaus
16 years old
Def C/R/L
Hillgrove Sec School
Can play in any position across the defensive backline. A player who quietly does his job without compromising. Do surge forward at times and can pack a powerful shot.

Mathias
16 years old
Def R/L WB
Fuhua Sec School
Despite his "size", speed is one of Mathias's stronger aspect of the game.
He makes up for his lack of match exposure with determination and hardwork. With more games under his belt, Mathias would gain more in tactical understanding and add attacking into his game aspect.

Cheng Jun
13 years old
Def R/L
Hillgrove Sec School
A young player still learning the game. Hardworking and always willing to listen to coach's advice. Had some subs in during a few games. Most memorable was being tasked to shut out one of the opponent's key players with 10 mins left in the game to play. Stuck to his task and never gave up. Would improve with more games to come.

GOALKEEPER

Midzi
14 years old
Gk
Greenridge Sec School
A new addition to the squad. After 2 seasons without a natural gk, Promisedland can be confident for the seasons to come with Midzi's arrival.
A young and courageous keeper who made several spectacular saves during the group games. With Midzi between the sticks, it gives the defenders extra confidence in the game. Midzi's encouraging cheers and words can always be heard throughout the game. This adds to the team atmosphere.
